Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most beautiful and fleeting moments — and capturing those early days is something you’ll treasure forever.

At Kristy Jauncey Photography, I offer two styles of newborn sessions: posed and lifestyle.

Both are beautiful, but they provide very different experiences. If you’re not sure which style suits your family best, here’s a simple guide to help you decide.

Posed Newborn Photography

What to Expect:

Posed sessions are typically held in my Terrey Hills studio and run for about 2 to 3 hours. These longer sessions allow plenty of time for feeding, settling, and gently guiding baby into those classic curled-up poses — the kind you see in baskets, bowls, and soft wraps.

I use a range of beautiful props, textures, and accessories, all carefully selected to complement your baby and create timeless, serene images.

Best For:

Families who love a styled, fine art approach to newborn photography and don’t mind a bit of extra time and preparation.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

What to Expect:

Lifestyle sessions are much more relaxed and natural. These are often held in your home or in the studio, and usually last around an hour. There’s no heavy posing — we simply capture your baby just as they are that day: whether they’re wide awake, yawning, being fed, or snuggled in your arms.

These sessions focus on connection and real moments — perfect if you want to document your baby’s first days in a way that feels authentic and personal. You are welcome to bring your own outfit for the session or I have a range of wraps and simple outfits that you can choose from in the studio.

Best For:

Parents who prefer a documentary-style session that captures real life and love, with minimal fuss.

So, Which Should You Choose?

It all comes down to what you value most:

Love the idea of a polished, styled image for your wall? Posed might be the way to go.

Prefer something low-key and full of real moments? Lifestyle could be a better fit.

Or, why not do a mix of both? Some families love combining the structure of a posed session with the warmth and emotion of lifestyle images — and it makes for a truly beautiful gallery. If you would like both, you need to select the Premium Newborn package.

  • Newborn's can be photographed at any age - but for those curly, sleepy type shots - it is best to capture those within the first 2-4 weeks of the baby being born
  • If your baby is bottle feeding, please bring along a few bottles to the session
  • For Premium sessions, it is best to bring along a dummy/pacifier - we may not use it but it can be helpful to achieve some poses
